OCEANCO
Exclusive First Look: Black Pearl – The World’s Second-Largest Sailing Yacht Now Available for Charter
Get ready to set sail! The magnificent 106.7-meter Oceanco sailing yacht, BLACK PEARL, is officially joining the charter market just in time for the Antigua Charter Show. We’re giving you an exclusive first look inside this stunning vessel.
Black Pearl isn’t just any yacht; she proudly holds the title of the second-largest sailing yacht globally. Her groundbreaking sail configuration features the world’s largest Dynarig, equipped with three towering 70.6-meter carbon masts. This impressive setup can unfurl an astonishing 2,934 square meters of sail in under seven minutes, propelling her to speeds exceeding 20 knots—without using fossil fuels for transatlantic crossings.
Delivered in 2018 by the renowned Dutch shipyard Oceanco, Black Pearl showcases exceptional design ingenuity. The Dynarig system was crafted by Dutch naval architect Dykstra, supported by an impressive design team including Lateral Naval Architects, Nuvolari Lenard, Ken Freivokh, and Villate Design for interiors.
Until now, the interiors of Black Pearl remained a mystery. But we’re thrilled to unveil them exclusively for you! With neoclassical flair, her interiors feature ornate woodwork, gold accents, and silk carpets inspired by Louis XVI. Rather than a traditional stateroom, the design emphasizes a spacious main saloon and a sizable private study located on the lower deck.
Accommodating up to 14 guests, Black Pearl offers five luxurious cabins on the lower deck. The full-beam master suite boasts a king-size bed, a lounge, and access to a private balcony. Two additional VIP suites, each with king-size berths and marble en-suites, flank the cabin, alongside one double and one twin room.
For relaxation, guests can retreat to the wellness area on the lower deck, which transforms into a night lounge featuring a massage room, gym, Hammam, and beach club. The space is adorned with twinkling lights that mirror the night sky, replicating the constellations above Rotterdam on her launch night in 2018.
On the main deck, a formal dining room with rich mahogany accents opens to balconies for breathtaking sunset views. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the remarkable 4,000-bottle wine cellar and tasting room on board.
The exterior spaces are equally enticing. Guests can unwind by the jet stream pool on the main deck or enjoy dining experiences that can transition from formal to casual with adjustable tables. The pool floor even lifts to create a dance floor, complete with an onboard sound system. There’s direct access to the night lounge, and the upper deck features a Jacuzzi and a large outdoor cinema screen.
The tender garage on the foredeck accommodates twin custom tenders, including a luxurious ten-meter Pascoe limo. The bulwarks can fold down to form a touch-and-go helipad, adding to the yacht’s versatility.
Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of Black Pearl’s design. Her hybrid propulsion system, designed by Lateral Naval Architects, features a vast battery bank. Under sail, the yacht’s counter-rotating propellers generate up to 480kW of power, allowing her to operate silently for extended periods. With the ability to sail at approximately 12 knots, she can cross the Atlantic without burning fossil fuels.
But it’s not just the technology that makes her remarkable; the wave-piercing reverse bow designed by Dykstra allows her to reach speeds of 17.5 knots on electric power, with a maximum sailing speed of 24.5 knots.
For charter opportunities, this 2864GT yacht is perfect for family getaways, corporate events, sailing regattas, and special occasions. Black Pearl won the award for “Best Technical Achievements Overall” at the 2019 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards, as well as the “2019 Sailing Yachts 60m and Above” category at the 2019 World Superyacht Awards.
