NORDHAVN 96

In 2017, Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) expanded its Nordhavn line with the introduction of the Nordhavn 96. The yacht quickly became a favorite in the exploration community, clinching the 2017 International Yacht and Aviation Award. Lacey Kay, the third model in this series, followed the launch of Vivierae II, cleverly bridging the gap between large cruising yachts and super-yachts. This design caters to yachting enthusiasts who crave super-yacht comfort and style, all while allowing for minimal crew management on extensive ocean voyages.

The 96 series builds on the successful Nordhavn 86 hull, featuring a larger cockpit, lazarette, and improved crew space below deck. The enhanced volume also enhances the dining and galley areas on the main deck and offers a spacious upper master stateroom in the pilothouse. Additionally, the increased length accommodates a more expansive flybridge complete with a hot tub.

Lacey Kay was crafted by her current owner, who made frequent visits to the shipyard during construction. He chose to include extra fuel tanks, boosting her total capacity to 9,575 gallons. Remarkably, despite the increased waterline hull length, her fuel consumption is slightly lower than the 86. At her optimal cruising speed of 9 knots, she burns around 10 gallons per hour per side, plus 5 gallons for the house generator, allowing for an impressive approximate range of 4,000 nautical miles—perfect for a Pacific crossing. According to Jeff Leishman, PAE’s Chief of Design, the extended hull length has significantly improved performance, stability, and comfort, further solidifying this well-proven design.
