PALMER JOHNSON

TEMPEST, launched in 1974 by Palmer Johnson as a near sistership to Jim Kilroy’s KIALOA III, has an impressive racing pedigree. She placed first to Bermuda in 1976, held the Vineyard Race record for two decades, and won her class in the Transpac.

Comprehensively rebuilt and relaunched by Holland Jachtbouw in 2000, TEMPEST has since competed in events such as the 2003 Daimler Chrysler North Atlantic Challenge (New York–Hamburg) and the 2005 Rolex Transatlantic Challenge (New York–Cowes), while also serving primarily as a family cruising yacht. Additional refits in 2010 and 2025 have kept her in excellent condition.

Previously named Tamora and Azar, TEMPEST is a 24.97 m sailing yacht featuring a teak deck, aluminium hull, and aluminium superstructure. Powered by a MAN diesel engine, she reaches a top speed of 10.5 knots and offers a range of 1,800 nm at cruising speed. Accommodation includes three staterooms for up to six guests, supported by a crew of two. She has a gross tonnage of 109 GT and a beam of 5.18 m.

The yacht was designed and engineered by Sparkman & Stephens.
